FAREWELL

Thank you to all my readers and subscribers over the 9 years I published this blog, especially the ones who interacted with me in the comments. My personal publishing career is coming to an end for several reasons: the expenses of running a hosted website (versus a freebie website like WordPress.com), and problems I couldn’t fix because I didn’t write code.

The local WordPress group was invaluable in helping me with coding problems. I will be forever grateful to those fine folks.

Southern Rural Route will cease to exist by November 21, 2020.

  1. I’m sorry, but do understand. We briefly talked when I was first looking for info on Rainbow Fern. I wish you well!

  2. Sorry to see you go. This seems rather quick and sudden. I hope you feel like you accomplished your goals during the time you did it. I take it one of the other free Blog sites or whatnot just didn’t work quite right for you?

    1. Melon Man! No, it’s not sudden. I’ve been thinking about it all this year and had decided that the first vendor to send me a bill would be the end of it. When I moved 5 years’ worth of wordpress.com posts to hosted wordpress.org, the blog didn’t work right. I couldn’t change categories and stuff in the old section. It has been one headache after another for the past 4 years and I was having to pay for coding experts to fix some of the stuff on a blog that earned no money and my Social Security doesn’t amount to much.

  3. I was just thinking of you the other day as I created a seed library at my public library. You were so kind to send me seeds from your Florida garden when I moved out to Oklahoma. It has been an absolute pleasure to know you in this virtual world and I thank you for inviting me into it. All my best to you.

  4. So sorry to hear you’re ending the blog. Your information and comments were a breath of fresh air. Good luck to you and know you will be missed.

  5. Ditto on moving to blogspot… they have a way to migrate your posts…. Or start a tumblr… Not being able to migrate the posts wouldn’t be as good…
I had a hosted website… and the way that my website host kept wanting to put me on the premium plan, instead of letting me slide along at the cheapo plan combined with not having internet… I gave up and took those sites down… unfortunately without migrating my blog posts…. Still have my domain name… can still put that stuff back up… if I ever get serious time online again….
You don’t want to be completely voiceless!
